ILLUMINATED SCULPTURE
Split Grain illuminated sculptures use light to reveal the elemental form and physical character of reclaimed wood.  Flowing out from the center, between each suspended slice, light traces intricate details and hidden beauty found in the contours of the wood.  Capturing beautiful patterns from all angles, these reductive and simplistic sculptures reveal nature through minimal form.

THIS PIECE
Made from a reclaimed California Coastal Monterey Cypress tree limb (see below for details about this wood) this table top piece is based on one of the original Split Grain designs with many closely spaced slices accentuating the twisting and jagged pattern of this type of wood.  It has many intricately shaped crevasses and edges that create beautiful meditational light patterns. Cypress also has a very pleasing aroma and upon close inspection emits a gentle fragrance.  This piece is illuminated with a warm colored LED, is connected via a 6 foot woven black cloth cord, in-line switch and 2 prong plug. 115v AC (also compatible with international voltages) and is finished with a felt base for a scratch-free surface.

RECLAIMED WOOD
The wood for this piece is from a reclaimed California Coastal Monterey Cypress tree from hedgerows at The Sea Ranch, California. These hedgerows are rows of Cypress trees planted on the California coast starting in the early 1900’s as wind breaks.  Lawrence Halperin, landscape architect of the 1960’s Sea Ranch development, continued planting them as shelter for homes in this unique coastal development.  Cypress is a beautiful semi-hard wood that features many twists and dynamic growth patterns from the relentless force of wind along the ocean.  These hedgerows have a limited lifespan, often failing in coastal storms as they age.  This piece was created with reclaimed wood from a tree that was damaged in such a storm and felled due to its end of life cycle.
