ILLUMINATED SCULPTURE
This Split Grain illuminated sculpture reveals the elemental form and grain in a piece of reclaimed California Incense Cedar. Fascinating details and hidden beauty are revealed from light emitting from the center of the sculpture, flowing out from each individual slice suspended on a thin aluminum armature. The warm light traces the contours of the wood capturing beautiful patterns from all angles.

THIS PIECE
This floor standing light sculpture was made from a long Cypress limb that had a pronounced twist to its form.  To split a limb of this length and have it remain intact was an amazing feat by the artist.  The ornate twist and jagged contours are accentuated by the 4 independent LEDs installed in the top and bottom creating a lighting effect that gently trails from either end towards the middle.  Its narrow, tower-like form creates an elegant presence full of motion and striking definition.  It is connected via a 6 foot woven black cloth cord exiting from the bottom of the piece allowing it to be oriented in any direction, finished with a foot switch and 2 prong plug 115v AC (also compatible with international voltages).

RECLAIMED WOOD
The wood for this piece is from a reclaimed California Coastal Monterey Cypress tree from hedgerows at The Sea Ranch, California. These hedgerows are rows of Cypress trees planted on the California coast starting in the early 1900’s as wind breaks.  Lawrence Halperin, landscape architect of the 1960’s Sea Ranch development, continued planting them as shelter for homes in this unique coastal development.  Cypress is a beautiful semi-hard wood that features many twists and dynamic growth patterns from the relentless force of wind along the ocean.  These hedgerows have a limited lifespan, often failing in coastal storms as they age.  This piece was created with reclaimed wood from a tree that was damaged in such a storm and felled due to its end of life cycle.
