'Doo-Wop' Pendant by Jørn Utzon for Louis Poulsen.
Originally introduced in the 1950s, the 'Doo-Wop' pendant light was designed in close cooperation between the Danish Navy Buildings department and Louis Poulsen. The pendant was used for many years in Navy buildings for many different applications and was called the Navy pendant through the early 1980s when it was taken out of the Louis Poulsen catalog. Popularity of old editions through sales in antique stores and auctions led to the recent re-launch.
Re-named the 'Doo-Wop' pendant light, the piece shares the original artisanal fabrication methods. Executed in aluminum, copper, or brass, the shades are still spun by hand and completed with the fine rolled edge which gives them a special optical volume. The brass and copper variants are untreated, meaning the surface will change over time and develop a lovely patina. The aluminum pieces are powder coated in white or dark grey. The fixture primarily provides a downward directed soft light by means of the white lacquered inner conical reflector.
